DOUGLAS CUP
Another successful Douglas Cup brought all the golfing members of Parkland Golf and Country Club together for a fun-filled day and evening. We thank all of you that have taken the time to write and to stop us at the club to tell us how much you enjoyed the event. That is what makes it all worthwhile. With all the uncertainty that has been going on at the club and in the country, it was nice to just relax and enjoy the event.
Men’s White Team Victorious

Douglas Team Winners 2010
The festivities began with the pairing party on Thursday night. Actually it all began a lot earlier than that when the planning started. This year we decided to expand the involvement by having the captains choose co-captains. Ivan Borodiak agreed to captain the Blue Team this year and the enthusiasm that he and Heather brought to the event was well noted. Jeff chose Russ Elkan for his co-captain and Ivan selected Brian Markowitz. The co-captains really got into the strategy of selection and competition. All involved cooperated in keeping the confidence of the selection process until the unveiling at the pairing party. The new scoreboard at the club was displayed and the anticipation could be felt in the room as the pairings were uncovered.
The weatherman threatened to ruin the day but he managed to get us through with just a few interruptions of liquid sunshine. By the time the singles events started after lunch the white team had a considerable lead, but the blue team, not to be outdone, staged a remarkable comeback to make the matches much more exciting. It was really nice to have half the teams playing and the other half on the sidelines watching and cheering on their teammates. White finally won out, but the margin was considerably narrowed. There was just enough time to go home, shower and change, and return for the evening’s fun and entertainment.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the food and entertainment supplied by Spanky and Dino. It was good to see the group out socializing and enjoying themselves on the dance floor. Brought back the feeling of the “good old days”. Heather’s novelties spiced up the evening and Traci’s solo brought back a lot of memories. The speeches reminded us of all we have been through in the past two years and how much we have to look forward to. The kids were once again included with the addition of the poster contest and the winner’s were thrilled to have their posters displayed in the pro shop the following week.

Borodiak Team 2nd Place
The event reminded us of why we all chose to belong here and what the family unit means to our community. Linda’s prediction of the USA winning the Ryder Cup everytime the White Team wins didn’t quite pan out but, hopefully, they will work harder to keep up their part of the bargain next time.
We thank all of you that contributed by your participation. It is true, the event is a lot of work, but it all becomes worth the effort when we see you having a good time. That is what club living is supposed to be all about. It takes good management to make it happen, but the membership has to participate to make it enjoyable and a success. Here’s to the future and a hope we can make it even better in 2012.
Our best to all involved in The Douglas Cup 2010
Linda and Jeff
