DOUGLAS CUP

2012 Douglas Cup was the largest ever with 100 members playing. The inaugural first ever Woman Douglas Cup and a record 72 men. The event held by members for members to bring the golfing members of Parkland Golf and Country Club together for 2 fun-filled days and evenings. We thank all of you that have taken the time to write and to stop us at the club to tell us how much you enjoyed the event. That is what makes it all worthwhile.

Ganley Ladies Teams Won 2012 Douglas Cup 4 – 3 1/2

The events began with the first ever Ladies Tournament with 16 ladies lead by captains Ann Ganley- and Sharon Dutkiewicz. Play began at 12 PM September 20, 2012. The first 9 holes the ladies will play best ball of 2 and Team Dutkiewicz took a commanding lead 3 1/2 to 1/2, the second 9 hole match alternate shot and the Ganley team came roaring back winning all 4 points. The thrilling match can down to last hole and Ganley Team won 4 1/2 to 3 1/2. The lady players joined the men at the pairing party held in the clubhouse immediately following the ladies matches.

Dutkiewicz Ladies Team 2012 Douglas Cup

The 2012 version of the Douglas Cup was captained by Russ Elkan Team versus Jeff Douglas Team. The men’s event played in three 9 hole matches on Friday, September 21. The men’s teams, partners and matches concluded with a closely contested final with Jeff Douglas team winning by the slimiest of margin 27 1/2 – 26 1/2.

The Friday night dinner dance was the highlight of the 2 day affair. By bringing 160 golfers and their spouses together for food, drink, dancing and celebrating with the champions. All held at the golf clubhouse. The evening began with grand entrance where all couples were photographed. Linda Douglas crafted decorations and a menu with the Chef Chris Carter to satisfy all, with hors de oeuvres 6-7:30 Food stations at 7:30 and Dessert stations 9:00. That is what club living is supposed to be all about. It takes good management to make it happen, but the membership has to participate to make it enjoyable and a success.
