DOUGLAS CUP 2020
2020 Douglas Cup was played during the Wuhan Pandemic in November 2020, a surprisingly successful event fielding 72 men’s and 32 ladies during mandatory masks and Covid closures. The event also marked the first year that the club was owned by the members and to commemorate we displayed the $1 million worth of equipment purchased by the members. It rained every day that week prior to the event but the players were not denied. The traditional dinner dance to kickoff the event was cancelled because the gathering would not comply with Covid restrictions. Thank you to all who braved the elements and Covid to enjoy your neighbors.
The Woman’s Douglas Cup matches pared 2 teams of 16 players each. The ladies’ captains were Theresa Ashburn, White Team the winner over Pamela Romain, Blue Team. The event is staged to demonstrate the importance of lady members at PGCC. The matches were held on Thursday and concluded in dinner and closing ceremony Friday. We thank all of you that have taken the time play in the only event held by the club during Covid restrictions.
The men’s event was won by: Men’s White Team, captained by Jeff Douglas, Charlie Puleri’s Blue Team Paid for the Players dinners.
The 2020 Douglas Cup continues a tradition started in 2006. At the beginning of every winter golf season for the last 15 years we have created a dinner dance and golf matches. We stage the only event to bring the membership and spouses together for 2 days. The event has always been a time where close friends meet, and new friends are made. This event exemplifies PGCC camaraderie, competition, fun, food, golf, dancing, and great friends.
